Lead - Software Engineering

We are looking for a Lead, Platform Service who leads a group of strong engineers, stays hands-on, and turns the platform's technical direction into systems every engineering team at MoMo builds on.

The team builds the shared technical layer for every engineer at MoMo: deep optimization of distributed systems, core libraries used across hundreds of services, infrastructure and DevOps pipelines (CI/CD), and bringing frontier AI technology into real engineering practice.

The work runs on real production traffic at MoMo scale — millions of users, high concurrency, payment-grade reliability. A regression in a core library or a pipeline is felt by every team at once, so judgment matters as much as speed.

Platform Engineering

Own the delivery of one or more platform areas (e.g. core libraries, CI/CD & developer tooling, infrastructure optimization, AI engineering enablement) end-to-end: scoping, design, execution, rollout and operation.
Translate the platform's overall technical direction and roadmap into concrete plans for your area — break them into milestones, sequence the work, and keep delivery on track.
Lead design and code reviews for changes that are expensive to reverse: library APIs, service boundaries, data models, failure modes, migration and rollout sequencing.
Stay hands-on: write and ship code on the hardest parts, prototype new approaches, and debug production issues alongside the team.
Drive reliability of shared components: backward compatibility, versioning and safe rollout of core libraries; SLOs, observability and graceful degradation for platform services.

AI-era engineering

Lead the adoption of AI coding tools and agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar) in your area — set the guardrails for how agent-written code is reviewed, tested and verified before it ships.
Build internal tooling and workflows that make other engineering teams measurably faster, and turn what works into shared platform capabilities.
Evaluate frontier AI technology with a builder's eye: prototype, measure, and recommend what is worth bringing into production.

Alignment & communication

Work closely with the platform's senior leadership to shape priorities, propose technical strategy, and decide trade-offs across platform areas.
Report progress, risks and incidents proactively; escalate early on cross-team dependencies, resourcing gaps or decisions beyond your area's scope.
Act as the main technical point of contact for your area with product teams — understand their needs and turn them into platform capabilities they actually adopt.
Step in for platform-wide initiatives and on-call coordination when needed.

Fundamentals

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years building and operating backend or infrastructure systems that real users depend on, including 2+ years leading engineers (tech lead, team lead or equivalent).
Deep understanding of distributed systems: concurrency, consistency, caching, messaging (Kafka or similar), failure modes and capacity planning.
Depth in at least one statically-typed language on a managed runtime, in production. We work on the JVM (Java/Vert.x); strong JVM internals (GC, memory, threading, profiling) is a big plus.
Track record of designing and maintaining shared libraries, frameworks or platform services used by many teams — including API design, versioning and safe rollout.
Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and at least one major cloud; comfortable with observability stacks (metrics, logs, tracing).
Proficiency across SQL and NoSQL stores (MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch…) — choosing by access pattern rather than familiarity.

Leadership

Able to turn a direction into an executable plan and deliver it with a team, while keeping quality and reliability high.
Clear written and verbal communication: you write design docs others can decide on, and you report status and risks honestly and early.
Comfortable working within a broader platform leadership structure — aligning upward, pushing back with data, and committing once a decision is made.
You coach engineers and grow them, not just assign tickets.

AI-era expectations

You work fluently with AI coding assistants and agents and can articulate where they help, where they hurt, and how your team verifies their output.
Builder mindset: you ship whole things, not tickets — prototype, write the migration, tune the query, debug the deploy.
You have built tooling that made you and your team faster, and you want to do that for the whole engineering org.
