Lead AI Engineer, NLP

MoMo is the market leader in mobile payments in Vietnam. We strive to make all transactions fast, easy and joyful. We are looking for an experienced NLP Research Engineer to join our growing Big Data & AI team. At MoMo, we make AI/Machine Learning the core component to almost every part of the product – product recommendation, personalization, conversational AI, eKYC, risk scoring, fraud detection, promotion targeting and financial services.
As a (Associate) Lead Research Engineer in NLP, you will be at the forefront of our efforts, guiding the development of our conversational AI system, including generative AI and large language models. This system is pivotal in enhancing user interactions and is deeply integrated into numerous workflows, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience. Join us in pushing the boundaries of AI technology and shaping the future of mobile payments in Vietnam.
What you will do
  • Architect, design, and develop NLP/LLMs systems, with a focus on Vietnamese language and financial domain applications.
  • Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and product specialists to build comprehensive machine learning systems that address real-world challenges.
  • Write and maintain high-quality production code, ensuring the robustness, scalability, and efficiency of NLP/LLMs systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  • Develop and maintain a long-term roadmap for NLP/LLMs research and development, aligning with the organization’s strategic goals and market trends.
What you will need
  • 5+ years of experience years relevant professional experience in Natural Language Processing with a track record of delivering quality results.
  • Experience in applied research in industrial settings.
  • Proven expertise in training and serving infrastructure for LLMs (Llama, Qwen, Phi3, Mistral) and other large foundation models.
  • Experience as a technical leader is a big plus.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++ and/or Kotlin
